Canva Tutorial for Beginners- How to use Canva from square one! Instructions for the templates:
Before you start, do not edit the original shared Canva file. Always work from your own copy.
Step 1 – Open the Canva Template
Click the Canva link provided in the training.
Step 2 – Make Your Own Copy (Very Important)
On a Computer
Go to File → Make a copy (or Share → Make a copy, depending on your version of Canva).
On a Phone
Tap the ••• (More) menu, then choose Make a copy.
Once your copy has been created, work only from that copy.
Step 3 – Upload Your Photo
On a Computer
On the left-hand menu, click Uploads.
Click Upload files and select the photo you want to use from your computer.
On a Phone
Tap Uploads (or the + button, depending on your Canva app version).
Tap Upload files or Upload media, then choose the photo from your phone's gallery.
Wait for the upload to finish before continuing.
Step 4 – Replace the Placeholder Image
On a Computer
Locate your uploaded photo in the Uploads panel.
Drag it onto the arched photo frame (the one currently showing the mountain and clouds).
When the frame highlights, release your mouse.
On a Phone
Tap your uploaded photo, then drag it over the arched photo frame (currently showing the mountain and clouds). When the frame highlights, release it and the placeholder image will be replaced.
Step 5 – Adjust the Photo
On a Computer
Double-click the photo inside the frame.
Move and resize it until the face is positioned nicely within the frame.
Click outside the frame when you're happy with it.
On a Phone
Tap the photo inside the frame.
Pinch with two fingers to zoom in or out, and drag the photo until it looks right.
Tap outside the image to finish.
Step 6 – Change the Name
On a Computer
Click on the existing name and type the new person's name.
On a Phone
Tap the existing name, then tap it again if needed to edit the text. Type the new person's name.
Step 7 – Save Your Image
On a Computer
Click Share → Download and save the image as a PNG.
On a Phone
You can either:
- Tap Share → Download to save the image to your phone, or
- Simply take a screenshot of the finished design.
Your recognition graphic is now ready to share with your team!
